Search for RO service charges in Mumbai and you will see quotes that differ widely. That is because “RO service” can mean anything from a quick visit to a full overhaul with new filters and a new membrane. Understanding what goes into the bill helps you compare quotes fairly and avoid surprises.
The parts of an RO service bill
Most service bills are built from four parts:
- Visiting or inspection charge. Covers the technician's travel and diagnosis. Some providers adjust it against the work done.
- Service labour. Cleaning, testing, tank sanitising and checking every stage.
- Spare parts. Filters, membrane, UV lamp, pump, adaptor or valves, only if they are needed.
- Consumables. Pipes, connectors and clamps, usually small amounts.
Call us for current visit and service charges. You always get the full price before any work starts.
What affects the cost
Which parts need replacing
This is the biggest factor. A routine clean costs far less than a visit where the sediment filter, carbon filters and membrane are all due. Membranes and pumps are the most expensive parts in a domestic purifier. Our RO filter price guide explains how part prices vary.
Your water source
High-TDS borewell or tanker water, common in parts of Mumbai's suburbs and new buildings, wears out filters and membranes faster than municipal water, so parts are due more often.
Type of purifier
An RO + UV + UF + mineral purifier has more stages to check and replace than a simple RO. Under-sink and premium models can also take longer to open and reassemble.
Brand and part quality
Original brand parts generally cost more than compatible parts. Good compatible parts can work well, but ask exactly what is being fitted and whether it carries a warranty.
Urgency and timing
Same-day or late-evening visits may be priced differently by some providers. Booking a routine service ahead of time is usually the cheapest option.
How to avoid overpaying
- Ask for a written breakdown of visiting charge, labour and each part.
- Ask to see the old filters that were replaced. A clogged sediment filter is easy to recognise.
- Check the TDS before and after. If the membrane is “replaced” but output TDS does not change, ask why.
- Be wary of very low prices that turn into a long list of “urgent” parts once the technician arrives.
- Consider an AMC if you service more than twice a year. See whether an AMC is worth it.
Service vs repair vs AMC: which to choose
If the purifier works but is due, book a routine service. If it has stopped or is leaking, book a repair. If you want predictable yearly costs, compare our AMC plans.

Frequently asked questions
Why do RO service prices vary so much in Mumbai?
Quotes differ mainly because of what is included. One price may cover only a visit and cleaning, while another includes filter changes. Always ask what the price covers and whether parts are extra.
Is the visiting charge adjusted against the repair?
Policies differ between providers. Ask before booking.
Are genuine filters more expensive than local ones?
Usually yes, but cheap filters can have poor media, loose seals or wrong sizes, which cause leaks and poor water quality. Ask which brand of part is being fitted.
