An AMC, or annual maintenance contract, is a yearly plan that covers your purifier's servicing and, depending on the plan, its parts. Many households take one so they never have to remember a service date or worry about a sudden repair bill. But is an RO AMC service always worth it? This guide explains how plans work and how to decide.
What an RO AMC usually covers
Plans differ, but most fall into three types:
- Service-only (non-comprehensive): scheduled preventive visits and labour. Parts are charged separately.
- Filters included: visits plus the routine filters such as sediment and carbon.
- Comprehensive: visits, filters and most spare parts, sometimes including the membrane, UV lamp, pump or adaptor.
Most plans also include breakdown visits between scheduled services. See RO Trust India's current plans on the AMC plans page.
What is usually not covered
- Damage from power surges, water flooding, pests or physical breakage.
- Plastic body parts and cosmetic damage.
- Problems caused by repairs done by someone else during the contract.
- Shifting or reinstallation at a new address.
Always read the exclusions. Two plans with the same price can cover very different things.
When an AMC is worth it
An AMC tends to pay off when:
- Your water is borewell, tanker or high-TDS, so filters are due often.
- Your family uses a lot of water every day.
- You prefer a fixed yearly cost over unpredictable bills.
- The purifier is out of manufacturer warranty.
- You are busy and want visits scheduled for you.
It may be less useful if your purifier is new and still under warranty, or if you have low-TDS municipal water and use little water.
A simple way to compare
- Add up what you spent last year on service visits, filters and repairs.
- Compare it with the AMC price for the plan that covers those parts.
- Add a margin for a possible breakdown, such as a pump or adaptor failure.
If the AMC is close to or below your yearly spend, it is usually the better deal, and it adds peace of mind. Our article on RO service charges explains what individual visits typically include.
Questions to ask before signing
- How many scheduled visits are included?
- Which parts are covered, and which are not?
- How quickly will a technician come for a breakdown?
- Are original or compatible parts used?
- Is there an inspection fee to start the plan?
- Can the plan be renewed at the same price?

Frequently asked questions
Can I take an AMC on an old purifier?
Usually yes, after an inspection. If major parts are worn out, they may need to be replaced before the AMC starts.
Does an AMC cover a new membrane?
It depends on the plan. Basic plans often cover visits and labour only, while comprehensive plans include filters and sometimes the membrane. Always check the inclusions list.
Can I cancel an AMC midway?
Cancellation terms vary between providers. Ask for the written terms before you pay.
