RO Installation Charges: What Should You Expect?

What a proper RO purifier installation includes, what affects installation and uninstallation charges, and how to prepare your kitchen before the technician arrives.

Technician installing an under-sink RO system with a storage tank in a kitchen cabinet

Buying a purifier is only half the job. A good installation decides how well it works, how often it leaks and how long it lasts. This guide explains what to expect from a professional RO installation, what affects RO installation charges, and how to get your kitchen ready.

What a proper RO installation includes

  1. Site check. The technician confirms a water inlet, a drain point and a power socket within reach.
  2. Input water test. TDS is measured so the purifier and TDS controller can be set correctly.
  3. Mounting. The unit is fixed level on the wall or placed securely on the counter or under the sink.
  4. Inlet connection. A T-connector and ball valve are fitted on the water line so the purifier can be isolated.
  5. Drain connection. The reject water line is fixed securely to the drain, ideally with a drain saddle.
  6. Flushing. New filters and the membrane are flushed to remove carbon fines and preservatives.
  7. Testing. Output TDS, flow, auto-cut-off and every joint are checked for leaks.
  8. Handover. You are shown how to operate the purifier, where the inlet valve is and when the first service is due.

What affects installation charges

Type of purifier

Wall-mounted and countertop units are the quickest to install. Under-sink purifiers need space planning and a separate tap hole, and take longer.

Plumbing at the site

If there is no nearby inlet or drain, extra pipe, fittings or a longer run are needed. Old or corroded plumbing may also need extra work.

Wall and counter work

Drilling tiles, granite or quartz for a tap hole takes special bits and care.

Extra fittings

A pressure-reducing valve for high-pressure buildings, a booster pump for very low pressure, or an extra pre-filter for dirty water add to the cost but protect the purifier.

Uninstallation and shifting

Moving house? Uninstallation, safe packing of the unit and reinstallation at the new address are usually charged together.

How to prepare for installation

  • Choose a spot near the kitchen sink with a power socket within about a metre.
  • Keep it away from the stove, direct sunlight and heat.
  • Make sure there is room for the technician to reach the water line and drain.
  • For an under-sink unit, clear the cabinet and confirm there is space for the tank.
  • Know your water source: municipal, borewell, tanker or mixed.

Signs of a poor installation

Leaks in the first few weeks, a unit mounted at an angle, a drain pipe simply placed in the sink, or no inlet valve fitted all point to a rushed job. If you see these, have it checked. Our guide on why an RO leaks explains the common causes.
